Billy Paul White May 9, 2021, Kansas City, Missouri - Billy Paul White was born on July 25, 1931 to William Perry White and Beatrice Williamson in Wetumka, Oklahoma. While Beatrice was his biological mother, Billy really knew the resourceful Annie Neal as his mother for the great majority of his life. Billy grew up in Oklahoma and Arkansas through some hard times known to many in that era, moving from one state to the other depending upon where the family could find work. Billy Paul had some interesting times in school for a variety of reasons. One year he missed school in the spring because William Perry was ill and the family needed Billy's help to plant onions. He was held back the following year. This was to have been his second time Billy was to re-matriculate into the same grade the next fall and he let his brother Bobby carry the academic load from that point.
Billy worked at a brick factory in Clarksville Arkansas from 1948 until 1951, when he enlisted in the United States Navy. It took some fancy pre-internet paperwork for him to enlist with his educational experience, but he pulled it off. Billy worked as a metal man in the Navy and learned the trade that would ultimately earn him his position at the TWA overhaul base in Kansas City during the fall of 1955. Billy worked for TWA until 1992. Academically, Billy did earn his high school GED while his son William was in high school. So for a brief period of time, there was mandatory study hall in the White household. While working at TWA was a great experience for Billy, far and away the best thing that the stopover in Kansas City brought to his life was meeting his future wife, Vivian, who he would wed in September of 1956.
Billy Paul accepted Christ as his savior in his childhood. He and Vivian attended several churches in the Kansas City metro, including the Kansas City Baptist Temple, Antioch Bible Baptist Church, and the First Baptist Church of North Kansas City, which is where they worshipped at his passing. Billy enjoyed construction projects at the church after his retirement as he possessed both the skills and the time to help out.
Billy was quite a talented man. Outside of the metalwork he did for TWA, he was a serious craftsman. He acquired a DeWalt radial arm saw as a young man which was part of many a project to roll out of his basement. He was also an avid outdoorsman. Billy was a hunter and a fisherman who took time to not only teach his sons the love of the outdoors, but his grandchildren as well. He was also a Cub Scout Pack Leader carrying on that role for years after he no longer had a son in the program, as Billy had a keen interest in young men and their development.
Billy was preceded in death by his daughter Diane, his parents, his brothers Quinton, Ray, and Jackie Joe (Hicks), along with his sister Coleta Christmas (Chris). Surviving relatives include his wife, Vivian, sons William (Lisa) and Ronald (Gia), brothers Bobby (Galena), James, Larry (Barbara), Loren (Carla), Jean Beatty (Glen), Teresa Larrison (Steve), Debbie Holt (Bill), and Virginia Baldwin. Billy had three grandsons, William Abraham (Sandra), Leland (Amy), and Patrick (Ashley). He had six great grandchildren with number seven expected to arrive this summer.
Visitation will be 1pm, followed by funeral services at 2pm, Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Floral Hills Funeral Home. Burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
