"The Virginia Leadfoot" Rodney Windsor Franklin, 61, of White Post, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Rodney was born May 21, 1953 in Fayetteville, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Franklin, Jr. and his brother, Darryl Franklin, Sr. Mr. Franklin is survived by his loving wife, of 45 years, Darlene; three daughters, Bridget Borlie, Tammy Dean and Jamie Foltz; six grandchildren, Derrick and Brooke Borlie, Dillon and Tori Dean and Colton and Carson Foltz; one great-grandchild, Jade Dean; his mother, Maxine Franklin; brothers, Frederick and Daniel Franklin; brother-in-law, David Stultz; sons-in-law, Stephen Borlie and Royce Foltz; and many loving nieces, nephews and relatives. After working 20 years with L. F. Franklin & Sons, Rodney owned and operated R. W. Franklin Excavating & Pro Sweep, Inc. Rodney's passion was auto racing. He was a top Late Model Dirt track driver in the 80's and 90's. Winning races in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and down South earned him the nickname "The Virginia Leadfoot". In 1979 he became the Winchester Speedway Track Champion, and in 1997 and 1998 the Hagerstown Speedway Track Champion. In 2004 Rodney was inducted into the National Dirt Track Late Model Hall of Fame. Rodney never lost his sense of adventure, he enjoyed riding his Harley and spending time in Florida fishing. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Always enjoyed family gatherings and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. A funeral service will be held 10:00 A. M. Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel, Berryville, with Pastor Robert K. Vineyard officiating. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, VA. Pallbearers will be Danny Franklin, Freddie Franklin, Creed Calton, Dave Metcalf, David Stultz, Steve Borlie, Royce Foltz and Tobey Swank. Honorary pallbearers will be Darryl Franklin, Jr., Jason Franklin, Brandon Franklin, Derrick Borlie, Dillon Dean, Colton Foltz, Donald Franklin and Travis Carroll. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 9:00 P. M. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Ave. Suite B, Winchester, VA 22601 or to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
