Robert L. Rosane, squad member: Bailey's unit was setting up an ambush for North Vietnamese army units when a group of U. S. soldiers mistook them for the enemy.
"The ensuing firefight and accompanying gunships strafing the area until they realized they were fighting 'friendlies' brought about Don's demise. He died in the arms of his assistant squad leader by a bullet that entered his lower back."
