Raul Martinez, age 71 of Worthington, Ohio passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, Ohio. Raul was born on October 22, 1949 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Maximiano and Rachel (Saldana) Martinez, Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Rachel (Chris) Ryon of Kettering, Ohio and son, Raoul J. Martinez, of Worthington, Ohio; his partner Suni Gassman; three grandchildren, Joshua Templin, Faith Ryon and Haily Ryon; two sisters and brothers-in-law Becky (Ruben) Martinez, Jr., and Sara (John) Kiene; three brothers and sisters-in-law Rick (Pat) Martinez, Ruben (Lily) Martinez, and Danny (Brooke) Martinez; and four nieces and five nephews, along with uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Rachel Martinez, Jr., and an infant sister, Yolanda.
Raul graduated from Findlay High School in 1968. He served his country in the US Army as an MP during the Vietnam War. He studied Sociology and Psychology at Bowling Green University. Raul received a BA degree in Sociology and Psychology from Heidelberg University. He received an MA degree in Clinical Psychology from Heidelberg University and did post-graduate studies (PHD) in Clinical Psychology from Heidelberg University. Raul loved all sports but his greatest love was baseball; he was a Certified Hitting Coach and spent endless hours patiently mentoring, training and coaching young kids.
Raul cherished his family above all else. He was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was always there to support and offer encouraging words to everyone.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 2-4:00 p.m. and 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:45p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road, Findlay at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021. Service will be live streamed through the church's website https://www.findlaystmichael.org.
Burial will follow in St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Findlay with military rites performed by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad.
Those attending visitation and funeral mass should observe COVID-19 precautions, including wearing a mask and socially distancing themselves from others.
