Bertha married the love of her life, Orville "Smitty" Smith, on July 12, 1945 in Dryden. She was above all, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Bertha worked many years as a cashier at Church's Lumber Yard in Lapeer, retiring in 1985. Mrs. Smith was a longtime, active and devoted member of Hunters Creek Community Church, where she was especially proud to be a member of the Women's Missionary Group. Mr. and Mrs. Smith also attended Calvary Bible Church in Lapeer for many, many years. Bertha was a talented quilter and enjoyed reading, word searches and puzzles. She was an avid Detroit Tiger Fan!
Bertha is survived by her children, Linda (Russ) McLaughlin of Lapeer, Ricky (Marcia) Smith of Lapeer and Vicky Smith of Lapeer; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville "Smitty" Smith; son, David Smith; parents, Edward and Frances Haynes; siblings, Gordon (Amy) Haynes, Eva (Charles) Ross, Celia (Kenneth) Hollenbeck, Robert (Shirley) Haynes, Neil Haynes, and Gerald (Sharon) Haynes.
