Josephine Aileen (Delp) Barbour
November 24, 1922 ~ May 9, 2021 (age 98)

Josephine Aileen Barbour, 98, died Sunday, May 9, 2021.

Josephine was born November 24, 1922 to Harold J. Delp and Grayce Hughes Delp, in Wayland, Michigan. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1941 and Michigan State College (University) in 1946. Having met and dated Maurice her first year of college, they reunited after three years when he returned from serving in England during WWII. They were married on December 29, 1946 in Klise Memorial Chapel, Grand Rapids.

Josephine is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Florence Griffin; and her husband Maurie Barbour. She is survived by her children Pamela E. Barbour (Denis Greenwalt) and Patrick T. Barbour (Mary Lou); her grandchildren Sarah Kresnak (Chad), Theron Barbour (Stacey), and Abigail VanDeventer (Ed), Louis Wiggen, Julia Wiggen (Kevin Johnson), and Liz Wiggen (Adam Johnson); her great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A lifelong Methodist, United Methodist, and 40 year member of the Bay View Association, Josephine enjoyed Bay View's concerts, lectures, and worship life. Once becoming a year round Petoskey resident, she continued to host book groups and a winter meditation reading group.

Josephine taught elementary school in her younger years and continued her instincts for instruction in ways that were both humorous and appreciated. She was creative in plotting family vacations and time with her six grandchildren.

Her leadership skills and love of trees is credited for the planting of over 300 flowering trees during her earlier years in Grand Ledge. She and Maurice loved to dance with family and friends and host intimate themed dinner parties, a tradition that Josephine embellished with her Bay View friends. As her children and family, we are deeply grateful for Josphine's dear friends, caregivers and McLaren Hospice. Her desire to remain in her home until the end of her life was realized. She showed us how to live and she showed us how to die with great acceptance, peace and faith.

There will be a service at Crouse Memorial Chapel this summer, details are pending and will be announced at a later date. Josephine's ashes will be interred next to her beloved husband, Maurice, in the Bay View Memorial Gardens.

Gifts in Josephine's memory may be given to Petoskey McLaren Hospice and the Educational Endowment of Bay View Association.
