A 55 year old South Carthage gentleman was the latest Smith County resident to succumb to the Corona Virus.

Mr. Sam Yates died at 7:21 a.m. Saturday morning May 15, 2021 at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin where he was admitted May 2nd.

Mr. Yates was at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. He was cremated at the Cumberland Family Services in Algood and no memorial services are planned.

He was the son of Mary Ellen Hughes Yates Bryant of South Carthage and David Yates Sr. of McMinnville, and was born Samuel Earl Yates in McMinnville in Warren County, Tennessee on August 13, 1965.

Mr. Yates was preceded in death by his step-father, Athol, Massachusetts native, Trenor Arthur Bryant who died February 16, 2016 at the age of 82.

Mr. Yates was a former employee of the Shiroki factory in Gordonsville.

He was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church in McMinnville.

Mr. Yates loved attending car shows and had an affinity for old automobiles.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his step-mother, Rose Yates of McMinnville; brother, David Yates Jr. and wife Rebekah of the Wartrace Community in Bedford County.
