Rev. Johnny Ray (John) Harris, 79, of Crossville, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 17, 1942, in Success, AR, son of the late Rev. Calvin Henry Harris and Rev. Goldia (Baucom) Harris.
John proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1963-'67. He continued in service as a civilian working for the Department of the Army for 34 years until retirement.
Concurrently with his civilian service, John pastored Abundant Life Church in Dale City, VA, for 21 years. Throughout his life, John mentored young ministers, including many who were in the military. He helped numerous families over the years. This led to strong relationships worldwide that remain to this day. After his retirement, he was a member of Faith Worship Center in Crossville where he taught periodically and sang frequently. He was an avid songwriter and enjoyed growing and hybridizing day lilies.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda Harris of Crossville; sons, David Harris of Ashburn, VA; Mark Harris and his wife Bethany of Leesburg, VA; and Gregory Harris and his wife Airin of Crossville.
John and Linda were passionate about helping people turn their lives around from drug and alcohol abuse and supported the Crossville Mission Bible Training Center. John taught monthly at the center and he and Linda formed relationships with the residents encouraging them in their recovery process.
The family is holding private services. A public memorial service will be scheduled for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Crossville Mission Bible Training Center. To contribute by check, please mail in honor of Rev. John Harris to Crossville Mission Bible Training Center, PO Box 452, Crossville, TN 38557.
