Carl J Turner passed away at his home in Wichita Falls on Saturday, May 15, 2021.
Carl was born on October 2, 1952 to Carl M Turner and Leona Roark in Kansas City, Kansas. He graduated from Lakeside High School in Hot Springs, AR where he grew up during his school years living with his beloved grandfather and grandmother, Carl J and Mildred Turner. He married his wife, Bonnie Lou Gore on November 21, 1973 in Malvern, Arkansas.
Carl worked for many years as a produce buyer for Safeway Stores, Inc in McAllen, Texas and then later established his own produce buying brokerage company which he ran with his wife in Hot Springs, AR. In later years he was a salesman of boats in central Arkansas and then recreational vehicles in Wichita Falls and Chandler, Arizona. He loved sales and always referred to himself as a "professional salesman". He often said his objective in boat and RV sales was selling someone on the "lifestyle" or "experience" and the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends, and the boat or RV was simply what made that experience possible. His love of fishing and RV travels in his own personal life made it very easy to promote the items he sold during his sales career. He and his wife traveled and lived in their RV for several years before becoming a permanent resident in Wichita Falls to be near their grandchildren and be a part of their lives. Those years in the RV were so very precious to Carl and he was always happy to share many stories of where they had been and what they had seen. He referred to those times as, "A Better Place to Be".
Carl was especially thankful for his two sons, Craig and Michael. His love of fishing was enjoyed with his son, Michael, and then also with his two grandsons. He also enjoyed good times as the family traveled together around Arkansas and surrounding states during Craig's teenage years of competition in motocross racing. Carl was always so proud of his boys and cherished those years of enjoying all their activities together from fishing, to motocross, to tennis, to cycling. He often talked of how blessed he was to have his two amazing sons, their wonderful wives and grandchildren; nothing could be more important in life. This love of family and being a part of their activities increased threefold as he was blessed in recent years with the opportunity to be a part of his grandchildren's sports from tennis to basketball and volleyball. Until his health issues began, he rarely missed an event to see the kids compete.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl M and Leona Turner.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years this November; two sons, Craig Turner and wife Kathie of Redlands, CA; Michael Turner and wife Erin of Wichita Falls, TX; three grandchildren, Jocelyn, Crostyn and Brecklyn of Wichita Falls, TX; his three sisters, Tracy Hardage of Hot Springs, AR, LaVerne Manos of Shawnee, KS, Jenny McIntyre; and several nieces and nephews.
Carl's family would like to recognize a special appreciation to honor all the never-ending support given to him during his recent battle with health issues to our good friend Dr. Chandler Harvey and his wife, Amy. Also, we are thankful to Mandy Seward of Henrietta, Texas for her efforts to ensure Carl was always given the best care during his many hospitalizations. Special thanks to the wonderful compassionate care by the nurses and staff of Hospice of Wichita Falls to make his last wishes to be at home with family possible.
A Celebration of Carl's life will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 19, 2021 in Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita Falls with Randy Osborn officiating.
For those desiring, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, TX 76310
