Simeon A. Hussey served in the 24th South Carolina Volunteer Regiment in Co. C with his brother Edward L. Hussey at age 23. He enlisted at George's Station now St. George, SC. His other brother, John M. Hussey, joined the 1st South Carolina Cavalry and died from 'being shot through the body' at Gettysburg. Simeon was captured at the Battle of Chickamauga on September 20, 1863 and sent to the terrible Camp Douglas in Illinois. Upon his release on June 16, 1865, he was noted as having auburn hair, blue eyes, and a height of 5'8. The 24th SC never surrendered and their colors were never captured. Their flag is on display in the Relic Room in Columbia, SC.

Simeon first married Lovie Wimberly. She was the daughter of Isaac Wimberly and Lovie Myers. She was born around 1840 and died 8 Oct 1868 in Dorchester County, SC. She was the sister of Caroline Wimberly who married Simeon's brother, Edward L. Hussey. Simeon and Lovie had three children named Jonathan M. Hussey, Archibald Hussey, and Ada Alice Hussey.

Not much is known about Simeon after the war. He moved to Florida where he married Annie D. Weimer (1852 - 1939). There is evidence that he had relatives or family friends living in Florida.
