Sarah Lillie (Gibson) Saunders, 85, passed into eternal life on 23 October 2007 in Kingwood, Harris County, TX.
A native of Baxley, Appling County GA, she moved to Jacksonville after her high school graduation in 1941. She roomed at the YWCA with a young lady who introduced her to John Milford Saunders, her brother. They were married 24 Dec 1941 in the home of his parents by his father, after a mere 3 months courtship. They were married 63 years.
Sarah was a professional in accounting. She served with the Federal Reserve Bank and retired from Cigna Corp. She was an active member of Murray Hill Baptist Church in Jacksonville and Kingwood Baptist Church in Kingwood, TX, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Shrine Wives Club and an Advisor to the Riverside Chapter Order of Rainbow Girls.
John and Sarah lived in Jacksonville until 1984 when they moved to Dallas, TX, then to Humble, TX in 1991 where they resided until their deaths.
She is predeceased by her husband; parents, John Henry and Effie Edna (Wolfe) Gibson; sisters, Lucille Thomas, Mary and Roberta Gibson; and brother, John Robert Gibson. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Ann Parkinson and husband, Oliver, Humble, TX; grandson, John M. Parker and wife, Micah, Columbia, MO; granddaughter Kathy Bruce and husband, Todd, Wayzata, MN; great grandchildren Kyla, Evan and McKenna Parker and Ruby and Hazel Bruce; brothers, Raymond M. Gibson and Henry R. Gibson, Leesburg, GA; sister, Clara Valladares, San Mateo, CA; and several nieces & nephews.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, 31 October at Jacksonville Memory Gardens, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL, nephew Rev. Michael Young presiding.
A Memorial Service for John & Sarah will be held in Kingwood, TX, later.
The family wishes to thank family and friends for all their kindness, love, care and concern for Sarah and family. She and her wonderful smile will be greatly missed. Her willingness to help others, to be a friend, and her strong support of family will live on in those who knew and loved her.
