Pioneer Citizen Passes Away
William Harrison Santee, an early Kansas pioneer,passed away at his home in Mound Valley,Jan.24,after an illness of only a few days,at the age of 91 years,1 month,and 21 days. He was born in Ashley,Pa.,December 3,1856 and when but a small child he moved with his parents to a farm home in Illinois. When he was 13 years of age, the family came to Kansas and homesteaded a farm 7 miles southwest of Mound Valley,later known as the Ben Young farm. In 1895 he was married to Sarah Christy-Richardson,who preceded him in death. He was cared for the past several years by his grand-daughter,Evelyn Marker.
"Grand Dad" as he was known to everyone,was a good neighbor,honest,loyal and dependable in all his dealings.
Tasks,no matter how great,asked of him,were never left undone. He made a home for his grand-son,Harry Marker,from the time he was a small child until the time of his death.
He leaves to mourn his loss,his grand-daughter Evelyn Marker,of the home,several neices and nephews,including Harry and Ike Santee of Mound Valley,as well many close friends and neighbors.
Funeral services,conducted by Rev. Albert Green,were held at the Sperry chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.Funeral music was furnished by Mr Albert Green,Mrs Paul Johnson and John Hoke,with Claud Gilson at the piano.
Pallbearers were Stanley Moore, E.E.More,Claud Robison,Owen Holm,Frank Harvey and George Davis.
Burial was in the Mound Valley cemetery.
