Leigh Thompson Williams, age 59, born April 22, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021, surrounded by her loved ones in her home in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Leigh held many titles including mother, wife, daughter, sister, nana, aunt, and friend. Leigh is survived by her husband of 40 years, Tony Williams, whom she married July 1, 1981; one son, Alex (Monica Ledbetter) Williams; one granddaughter, Hazel Woods; one sister, Lisa (Billy) Knipp; grandmother, Addie Fannin; aunts, Shirley Spencer, Mary Jo Thompson, and Cindy (Bobby) Trent; two nieces, Tori (Alex) Thomas and Karilee Knipp. Other survivors include special aunts, uncles, cousins, her dog Roxy, her cat Fancy, and dear friends whom she considered family.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Jesse and Judy Hager Thompson; mother-in-law, Yvonne Waggoner; father-in-law, James E. Williams; and grandparents, Jim and Carrie Thompson.

Leigh loved her profession of teaching so much she felt as though she never worked a day in her life. She obtained both her Bachelor of Arts with an area of study in Elementary Education and Master of Arts in Education from Morehead State University. She also earned her Gifted Education Certification from Western Kentucky University. Leigh retired after serving 29 years in Carter County Schools and later returned to the classroom in Bowling Green as a math and reading specialist. Her students learned the value of a strong work ethic, as she expected each student's best work. Her teacher friends remember her greatest lesson of all was to be the type of teacher you would want your own children to have.

Leigh lived to make her own sunshine. Her greatest pleasures in life included walking the pier as the sun was rising, sitting on the ocean's edge in a beach chair, sharing book and TV show recommendations with family and friends, exploring new places, attending live music shows, and finding the best desserts a place had to offer.

A celebration of Leigh's life will be conducted at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2021, and a funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Aaron Mansfield officiating.
