Larry Porter

Larry Porter, "PePaw", 84, died unexpectedly on May 14, 2021, at Hermann Memorial Hospital. He was born in Jean, Texas, to Jeff and Mattie Porter. They moved to Beaumont in 1942.

Larry was a French High graduate and took classes at Lamar Tech. He enjoyed his French High School friends at the monthly luncheons. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Jalle Stockholm Porter and celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage.

He went to work at Beaumont Machine Shop. Larry left there and went into business with his father at Porter's Carpet and became owner after his parents retired. He retired in 2020 and turned the business over to his daughter and grandson.

Larry led a very Christian life and was a member of the United Methodist Church most of his life. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for seventy-six years. He enjoyed his Wednesday night Bible classes and reading the Bible. Larry was a veteran of the National Guard and an Eagle Scout. He served as Port Commissioner and was also a member of the Lion's Club, Rotary Club, YMBL, YMBL Fair Chairman, Masonic Lodge, and Shriners. Larry loved serving his community.

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Jalle Stockholm Porter. He was an excellent role model for their three children, Larry Porter III, Catherine Edwards and her husband, Quentin, and Pam Hargrove and her husband, Steve. He was the best PePaw to his ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, Brandon Giacomo, Cody Giacomo, Taylor Giacomo and his wife, Laura, Tiffany Jack, Blake Edwards, Jefferson Porter IV, Justin Porter, Sarah Porter, Michael Porter, Isabella Porter, Riley Giacomo, Porter Giacomo, Everette Giacomo, Braxton Giacomo, Dominic Giacomo, Kobi Williams, Jude Edwards, Brayden Jack, Brynlee Jack, Cael Parks, Connor Parks, Logan Porter, Levi Porter, and Lauren Porter. He was PePaw to many others that knew him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his two sisters, Patsy Porter and Barbara Porter Scott.

A gathering of Mr. Porter's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 21, 2021, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 North Major Drive, Beaumont, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
