Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He joined the Union war effort on December 20, 1861, when he was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company F, 109th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Dallas, Georgia on May 28, 1864, with his citation reading "While bringing in a wounded comrade, under a destructive fire, he was himself wounded in the right leg, which was amputated on the same day". His discharge on January 18, 1866, was backdated to July 19, 1865. He was awarded his Medal on August 29, 1896, thirty-two years after his brave act.
