Opal, 92, of Ovid, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012. Opal was born sixth out of seven children to Lewis and Mable (Longcor) Kosht on the family farm.

She went to the country school and then graduated from Ovid High School in 1937.
On December 31, 1938, she married Henry Parker in Angola, Indiana. They had three children and lived in Ovid their entire life. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1988.

Opal worked at the old Ovid Nursing Home, was a childcare provider and worked at Sheldon's Packing House before retiring. She was a member of the Acme Society and a volunteer at Ovid Healthcare. She attended the United Church of Ovid.

Her favorite things besides her family were, camping at Rose Lake every summer, Bingo; any time any place, and (all afternoon) Euchre games.

Opal is survived by her son, Clare Parker, daughter Sandy Kettler, and son, Keith (Patti) Parker, all of Ovid. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gregg (Holly) Criner of Ovid, Gary (Bob Sauer) Criner of Ovid, Kim (Kip) Scott of St. Johns, Kristopher Parker of Ovid, Kelly (Jodi) Parker of St. Johns, Eric (Jackie) Parker of Ovid, Clint Parker of Ovid, Maggie Parker of Philadelphia, PA, step-grandson, Jon Ewell of Virginia Beach, VA. She also has 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Martha Wilson of Corunna and her sister-in-law Ila Kosht of Ovid, as well as many nieces and nephews and other loving family members.

Those who preceded her death are her husband, Henry Parker, brothers, Angus Kosht, Elvin Kosht, Willis Kosht, Donavon Kosht and sister, Adra Wittenberg.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 4, 2012, with Pastor Greg Buchner officiating at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Ovid.

Memorial donations may be made to the Ovid-Middlebury Fire and Ambulance Dept. or the United Church of Ovid.
