George lived on Carr Farm in Carrcroft with his siblings and parents who were farmers for J. Edward Addicks , Carr Farm's owner. George and his siblings were fond of their parents' dairyman Mytro Dobrisky who often let the children accompany him on his travels to Claymont to bring milk and cream for shipment. Such was the case on September 28, 1897 when George, his 12-year-old sister Maud, and Mytro were hit by a train and instantly killed while crossing the Baltimore and Ohio railroad crossing on Carr's Road (now the CSX railroad bridge over Silverside Road) towards Claymont.

Their bodies were taken to a spare room at the Baldwin family home. On the evening of the accident, an inquest was held and deemed the tragedy an accident but recommended the B&O install gates at the crossing. On September 30, a funeral service was held for Mytro and the Baldwin children.
