Orville "Orv" William Smith was born August 28, 1922, to Delbert and Florence Smith in Anderson, Indiana. He died on November 4, 2007, at Whidbey Island Manor, Oak Harbor at the age of 85. He had been a resident of Coupeville for the past fifteen years.

Orv graduated from high school in Indiana and attended Purdue University. He later joined the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, serving as a combat pilot. He left the service with the rank of Lieutenant.

Following the war, Orv moved to California and worked in the wholesale grocery business in several locations. He also began a career as a carpenter and contractor in California. He then moved to Washington State, where he continued his construction work in Belfair, Seattle and Snohomish County. He was married to Irene V. Keefe on December 4, 1971 in Sumas, Washington. He and Irene lived in Lake Stevens, Belfair, Camano Island and in 1971, moved to Coupeville.
Orv was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Irene; and his parents.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Payne, of Coupeville, WA and Carol Weaver, of Garden Grove, California; one son, Larry Beck, of Marysville, WA; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Orv Smith will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Thursday, November 8, 2007 and from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, at Burley Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, November 9, 2007, at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville with Rev. David Engle officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, Washington.
