Robert Reuben (Bob) Zimmerman was born to Reuben and Magdelena (Eszlinger) Zimmerman on November 30, 1934, at Lehr, ND, and attended school there, graduating in 1954. He attended VCSC at Valley City that summer and taught a rural school south of Lehr that fall.
During his high school days he worked at various places, including the Red Owl store and Thompson Yards, which he managed from 1955-1958; from 1958-1962 he was employed by Goebel Brothers of Lehr. From 1962-1964 he attended SSS at Wahpeton, graduating with a printing degree. He was employed at the Kulm Messenger for five years. In September 1969 he purchased The Wishek Star and was its editor/publisher until May 1990 when he sold the business. Bob, along with six other area publishers, was instrumental in forming and served as treasurer of Central Dakota Printing, Inc., where member newspapers were printed in Wishek.
On July 26, 1956, Robert married Verna Roesler, daughter of Albert and Olga (Mintz) Roesler of Lehr. They moved to Wishek in July 1965. They have one daughter.
He enjoyed traveling with family and for many years there was a planned trip somewhere, to include Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, DC, and many other U.S. states.
Bob is survived by his wife Verna, daughter Zue Zan (Robert) Hanna, Moorhead, MN; grandsons Ben (Annie) Hanna and their children Alice and George, Eden Prairie, MN, and Mark (Ryan) Hanna, Burnsville, MN; brothers Delmar (Deloris) Zimmerman, Wishek, ND, and Gail (Cheryl) Zimmerman, Gilbert, AZ.
The family thanks the staff and caregivers at the Wishek Living Center for the care he received since becoming a resident February 15, 2021.
