Evelyn Earlene Allen, 88, of Terre Haute, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.

She was born on December 31, 1932, in Terre Haute to Clifford Winston and Daphney (Roberts) Winston Tullock.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Constance Winston of Huntsville, AL; Lorita Heller and husband Nicholas of Terre Haute; Winford Leon Hatfield and wife Audrey of Norfolk, VA; Sharon Dunson Hatfield of Indianapolis; and Alan Keith Allen of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Bruce Maxwell, Kim Maxwell, Crystal Newell, Dina Smith, Tiffany Shelton, Brian Hatfield, Brandie Broomes-Ortiz, Michele Shauntee-Reeder, Charmaine Shauntee, Michael O. Shauntee Jr., Chris Hatfield, April Hatfield, Sylvester Gardner, Sean Batson, Schelbi Batson, Alan Keith Allen Jr., and Nicole Earlene Allen; brother, Dale Carson and wife LaConda of Terre Haute; sisters, Rosa Evans and Audrey Barnhill, both of Terre Haute; special cousins, Beatrice Baker and Doug Roberts; forty great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Winston and Daphney Tullock; husband, Arthur Allen; son, Robert Romero Hatfield; grandson, Scott Batson; brothers, Winford Winston, Junior Carson, and Thomas Carson; sister, Dolores Nolan; and special cousins, Estella Roberts and Bummy Roberts.

Evelyn worked as a nurse at Union Hospital, retiring after 20 years of service on the 4th floor. She was a member of Higher Ground Christian Center. Evelyn enjoyed giving back to the community as a volunteer for Camp Bluebird, teaching crafts and ministering to cancer patients at the yearly retreat at Camp Ouabache.

A devoted caregiver in every sense of the word, Evelyn never missed an opportunity to help those in need by caring for and ministering to people in every walk of life. Evelyn loved to read her Bible and delve into God's word, always enriching her relationship with him. She loved to write and enjoyed giving cards to others with heartfelt, carefully chosen words, written personally as a gesture of friendship, acknowledgement, and condolence. Loving, caring, loyal, and sincere, Evelyn also had a warm sense of humor that could put anyone at ease. She loved music and was a wonderful dancer. Evelyn cherished her family and they, too, cherished her. While her presence will be missed, her impact is lasting.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19 at Higher Ground Christian Center. A homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, at the church with Pastor Faron Richards and Pastor Sean Batson officiating. Evelyn will be laid to rest in Stewart Lawn Cemetery.
