Barbara Pitts Harper, 83, of Columbia, passed away at home on May 12, 2021. She was the daughter of Fred Lee Pitts and Evelyn Walters Pitts and the wife of James Olin Harper. She is survived by her brother, F. Lee Pitts (Fran) of Columbia, and sisters-in-law, Jean Harper Miller of Rock Hill, and Ann Harper Amacher (Mike) of Lady's Island. She is also survived by nieces, Buffie Miller, Debra "Deedee" Hyatt; nephews, Bill Miller, Edward Lee Pitts, James Pitts, John Pitts, Brian Amacher, Adam Amacher; cousins and close friends who were considered family and her caregiver and devoted friend Nellie Rose Velazquez.

Born in Columbia on April 9, 1938, Barbara was educated in the Columbia schools, graduating from Columbia High School. She married Jim Harper and they were partners and best friends for over 50 years. Together they visited every state in the U.S. She retired as Executive Director of the S.C. Architectural Board. Barbara was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church for over 50 years, serving on Worship, History, Cemetery, and Senior committees.

Interment in Bethel United Church Cemetery.
