Christopher "Chuck" James Bennett, Sr, age 67, died suddenly of natural causes on April 26, 2021, at his Franklinville home.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathleen; his three children: Christopher J. Bennett, Jr of Firestone, CO; Heather Schroy (Larry) of Winchester, VA; Jeffrey Bennett (Jennifer) of Elmer, NJ. Also, surviving are his granddaughter, Kayah Bennett, and step-granddaughter, Bailey McGaha; his sister, Sandie Bennett (Danny), of Beaver Dam, KY; brothers-in-law: Michael Carroll, Kingsland, GA; Joseph Carroll, Franklinville, NJ; sisters-in-law: Susanne Bell (John), Jeannette, PA; Barbara Crescenzo (Warren), Vineland, NJ; Mary Ann Franks, Newark, DE. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Survivors from his biological family include his loving, Aunt Audrey Breece, sisters: Beverly Rutt and Patricia Fisher, cousin, Brenda Rademacher and family, niece Kimberly Gossy and family, nephew, Tom Lord and family. Frank, his older brother, we currently do not know his location and are still searching.

He was predeceased in death by his adoptive parents: Winifred and Eldridge Bennett and brother, William Bennett. Also, by his biological parents: Charlotte (Stanton) Doty and Frank Bauerfeld Jr.

Chuck was born in New Brunswick, NJ and grew up, from the age of 8 months, in the NJ foster care system before finally being adopted, as a teenager, by Winifred and Eldridge Bennett. His dream was always to someday be reunited with his biological family but had no information to perform any search. His son, Christopher, and his "soon-to-be-known" niece Kimberly, who is from his, at that time, "unknown" biological family, decided to do a DNA test (23&Me) at the same time during the 2018 Thanksgiving holiday. The results Christopher saw were only the make-up of his DNA (Irish and German) until a few weeks later, by a nudging from God, he clicked on the search for DNA relatives option. This search immediately showed two individuals that rated closer in DNA (25%) than his cousin's daughter Courtney (12.5%). After exchanging texts, emails, and phone calls with Kimberly, it was determined that these two unknown individuals were his biological sister, Beverly Rutt, and his biological niece, Kimberly Gossy. Chuck was overwhelmed with his "newfound" biological family, something he dreamt about for 63+ years which was now a reality in January 2019. He learned his birth name was Charles Francis Bauerfeld and that when he was 8 months old, the State of NJ separated the three children (Bev (3yo), Frank (2yo), and Chuck (8 mos)) from their parents. Although Chuck and his biological family only had two short years together, the bonds grew strong, and now we can celebrate his life together as a reunited family.

Interment took place at the convenience of the family on May 3, 2021, at Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Due to his son, Jeffrey's, stem cell transplant that just occurred on April 28th, a memorial service for Chuck will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312.
