Born in Brownsville, PA, to the late Edna and J. Edward Thomas; admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1954 and to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1960.

Attended the University of Maryland and Cornell University (A.B., 1950); Cornell Law School (L.L.B., 1954)

Enlisted in the military between 1945-1947; U.S. Army, 2nd Lt; served one-year occupation of Germany, W.W. II. Recalled to active duty in 1950-1952, served eleven months in Korea, 1st Lt. Co. A, 5th Cav. Regt, 1st Cav Div.; awarded Combat Infantryman's Badge, two Battle Stars, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Partner law firm Bradshaw, Thomas & Yeatman, Silver Spring, MD; specialized in zoning, land use, real estate, and administrative law. Retired in 1995. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Maryland Bar Association, and the American Justice Society.

President of the Silver Spring and Maryland Junior Chamber of Commerce; Chairman of the Silver Spring YMCA; President of the Silver Spring Toastmasters club; Boy's Home of Montgomery County "Man of the Year" in 1972; President of Sligo-Branview Citizens Association; Delegate of Allied Civic Group, and Senior Warden, Ascension Episcopal Church.

Loving Husband of the late Betty Talley, married in 1950. Brother of the late J. Edward Thomas, Jr. And is survived by two children, Marcia Ann born 1952 of Pittsburgh, PA and Matthew John, born 1955 of Frederick, MD; four grandchildren, Kimberly and Marlene Thomas of Virginia, Chelsea and Kelly Waldo of Pittsburgh, PA; also, four great-grandchildren, Neolia Lastinger and Skylar Van Gorder, Zeke and Zack Lyons-Prince.
