Rex Martin, 87, of Charles City, passed away November 30, 2016, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral Mass for Rex will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Reverend Gary Mayer officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Family and friends will be gathering from 9:30 a.m. to the start of the service at the church on Saturday.

Rex Warren Martin was born June 3, 1929, to Glen and Aleene (Hamilton) Martin in Mason City, Iowa. He attended school in Mason City. Rex went on to join the Army, serving the country as a member of the 82nd Airborne; he was both a paratrooper and a glider pilot. On July 3, 1948, he was united in marriage to Virginia Roethler. Rex worked on small parts on the bench at Oliver/White Farm for 37 years. He and Virginia were both members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge.

Rex was passionate about fishing and hunting. Together with his sons, he went on countless excursions fishing for walleye, and hunting pheasants, morrel mushrooms or any other small game. He was never without his loyal companion "Bootsy". Rex was also an avid Cubs fan who finally got his wish.

Living family members include his sons: Michael (Judy) Martin of Rochester, Minnesota and Mitchell (Kim) Martin of Ankeny; sister: Arvila Martin of Mason City; grandchildren: Letasha (Tracy) Baxter, Hannah (Jamie) Gerleman, Benjamin (Ashley) Caster, Samantha Horner, Tabitha Martin, Jessica Adams, Travis Putney, and Alicia (Cameron) Ives; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 61 years, Virginia, in 2012; and sisters: Ruth, Margret and Jackie.
