Graveside services for Mr. Prentice Melvin Hixon, 80, of Monroe, LA, will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery with Mr. Aaron Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA.

Mr. Hixon was born March 18, 1941, in Monroe, LA, and passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at his home. Mr. Hixon was a US Navy Veteran, a member of the Monroe Police Reserves, Activities Driver for Ouachita Parish School Board, Lions Club, National Electrical Benefit Fund (NEBF), a member of Louisiana Associate of Nationally Reg. EMT; as well as a member of Northeast Louisiana USBC.

In his late teens, early 20s, Mr. Hixon played piano and guitar in the backup band at the LA Hayride. Mr. Hixon also coached youth baseball for kids and drove activities buses for Ouachita Parish High School Band, Choir and Debate Club. He was a long-term member of the OPHS Band Parents club and supported OPHS football. Any child that participated in these events knew that if they needed anything they could ask him. Most often he was their banker and medic.

He loved working on all types of mechanical things, and spending time with friends and family. He loved cooking on the grill and frying fish. Mr. Hixon had a big heart and would do what he could for anyone that needed help. Often there were other people or families living with Mr. Hixon and his wife Rita. He was a carefree and fun-loving man who was an avid hunter, fisherman and motorcyclist.

Mr. Hixon was preceded in death by his mother, Viola V. Brooks Hixon; father, Samuel C. Hixon, Sr. and wife, Rita Faye Osburn Hixon; two sisters, Mattie Lee Hixon Foster and husband Marvin Foster, Jessie Burell Hixon Deal and husband Grover Deal; and sister-in-law Virginia Womack Hixon.

Survivors include his daughters, Tina L. Hixon, Betty J. Hixon Powell and husband Ray; sons, Scott A. Hixon and wife Kathleen Winfield, Benjaman T. Hixon and fiancée Chelsea Hughes; grandchildren, Maggie Hixon Clarkson, Devan Hendry Nelson, Jessica A. Hendry, Emily Hixon Thompson, Breanna Hixon Lee, Samantha D. Hixon, Jewelee Bicheman, Joey Moore, Brady Moore, and Tristen Hughes; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Uncle James, Paul David, Ben Royce, Tracy Smith, Mike Gullege, and Jerry Pickett. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher T. Hixon, Samuel Thomas Hixon, Samuel C. Hixon, Jimmy Dale Jones, Jerry Dale Jones, and Lance Hixon.
