Covington Resident Worked With MeadWestvaco For Over 50 Years
Mr. Richard Frank (Hickory) Bowen, age 70, of Covington, Virginia, died Monday, May 10, 2021 at his residence. He was the husband of Patricia Marie Brackenridge Bowen.

Mr. Bowen was born February 11, 1951 in Alleghany County, the son of the late Frank Bowen and Iona Cox Bowen.

A lifetime resident of this community, he was employed by MeadWestvaco where he worked on the paper machines for over fifty years.

Hickory was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Mr. Bowen also enjoyed woodworking. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, Mr. Bowen is survived by a son, McKenzie Lee Bowen of Covington; a daughter, April Bowen of Covington; two granddaughters, Isabella Marie Sparks and Lexie Iona-Ann Sparks; and two sisters, Bertha Hosey of Covington and Robin Twitchell of Maine.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowen was preceded in death by an infant sister, Nolas Bowen.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home followed by a committal service at Lone Star Cemetery.
