CURTIS BIRMINGHAM

Curtis Birmingham, a Marlow resident since 1971, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 1996 in a Duncan hospital. He was 87.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday, Jan 16 at the First United Methodist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. George Gilland officiated and Ernest Muncrief gave the eulogy. Burial was in the Marlow Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home.

Birmingham was born on Jan 17, 1908, to Bart and Bessie (Earp) Birmingham in Provence, Okla. He was a retired school teacher and a World War 11 Army Veteran. He taught school at Acme from 1933 to December 1942 and then taught a Meridian from 1946 until his retirement in 1971. He served in the U. S. Army from December 1942 until Nov. 22, 1945.

A 1926 Tishomingo High School graduate, Birmingham attended Murray State College until 1928, then went to Oklahoma City University where he received a Master of Science degree from Oklahoma A & M.

He was a former Mason and a member of the Marlow Lions Club.

Birmingham was married to Etolia Armstrong in Marlow on Feb. 19, 1933. She died on July 16, 1991.

Survivors include a brother, Noble Birmingham of Hot Springs Villiage, Ark. and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers were Kenneth Patterson, Ed Turley, Ernest Muncrief, R. K. Johnson, Oral Ellis, Tommy Taylor and Gene Bowles. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bill Jones, Peter Jones, Leo Qualls and Jay Love.
