Bonnie Diane Sanford Thomas passed away peacefully in her home from complications of type 1 Diabetes on May 9 2021.
She was born in Salt Lake City on August 28 1952 to Fred Sanford(father) Bonnie Sanford (mother)
She graduated from BYU and The University of Utah in Nursing.
She worked at the U of U hospital for 25 years serving on the IV team, The ICU, and in the Outpatient unit. She was an excellent nurse. Many people requested to have her at their bedside during their suffering or at the last moments of life. She was on the amazing team with Dr Devries and Dr. Jarvik, the surgeon and inventors of the artificial heart respectively. They worked on the first patient, Barney Clark, to receive the first artificial heart in Utah. It was an amazing experience for her.
Diane loved animals. She had a very loving heart. She was an animal activist and donated money to several animal and children's charities monthly.
She loved her horse Daisy. She was often seen on her horse in the summer evenings.
Diane loved her golf cart. She was called the "golf cart lady" in the neighborhood. Many special conversations with mother were held in that golf cart!
She served faithfully in her callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in the California North Mission where she met her future husband, Allan Thomas. She loved the primary children of the Draper 12th ward, and they adored her. She had a strong testimony of the gospel, loved the Lord and attended the temple weekly even with her physical complications. She was well loved by the patrons of the Draper temple. She always took the widows in the area dinners and treats.
She appreciated the arts and was often caught watching PBS specials. She was interested in the sciences and loved watching Jane Austen movies.
She was a fun and loving mother and was very involved with her children. She made sure that they felt loved and cherished. She loved decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, with her kids!
She is survived by her husband Allan Thomas, her daughter BonnieJean Thomas Black (Joshua Black) and her son Matthew Allan Thomas (Amanda Thomas) and her dog Wookie. She has two living brothers David Sanford (Pennie) and Freddy Sanford (Karen), as well as "adopted" sons, J.R., Josh, Dan, Cory, and Dane. She was a mother to many!
