Her parents were William Taylor and Sarah Scruggs from Henrico, Virginia and she is also a descendant of Mayflower Pilgrim passenger Mary Chilton and John Winslow a Pilgrim passenger from the ship Fortune. She and Benjamin were married on 1 October 1778 at Henry, Virginia. She later moved out West with her husband sometime in the early 1820s to McMinn County, Tennessee.
