He was born on December 31, 1945, in Johnson County Kentucky, son of the late Wade Hurst Bailey and Lora Mae Kelly Bailey.
He was a graduate of Blaine High School. He loved being outside, his gardens and music. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a P.F.C. in 1967. He worked at Ashland Marathon Oil Refinery until he retired in 2005. He was a proud member of the O.C.A.W. Local 3214. He was baptised at Christ Temple Church in Ashland by Pastor J.D Cockrel and Elder Uriah Tolbert.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Sue Bailey; two sons, Douglas H. Bailey Jr. and wife, Betsy and Thomas Mauray Bailey; one daughter, Cristina Elizabeth Garred, and his favorite son-in-law, Jerry Garred; eight grandchildren, Dalton, Lora, Molly, Sam, Perrin, Moira, Nick and Nathan; two sisters, Peggy (John) Leaenberger and Mary (Joseph) Theiler; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted by J.D. Cockrel at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020, at Christ Temple Church, 2601 Lexington Ave, Ashland, Ky. He will be laid to rest at the Kentucky Veteran's Cemetery Northeast in Ashland, Ky. Schneider-Hall Funeral Home in Chesapeake, Ohio is assisting the family with arrangements.
