Michael Bruce Birdsong
SEPTEMBER 24, 1947 – JUNE 18, 2017

Mike lost his battle with cancer, passing away on Sunday, June 18th. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Bette Birdsong, their son Michael Bryan Birdsong, his brother Malcolm Birdsong, sister Marilyn Warner and her husband Robert Warner. Mike was born in New Braunfels, Texas where he grew up playing baseball and football. He later graduated from Texas A & M and the University of Texas Dental School at Houston where he taught dental anatomy. In 1981 he moved his family to Austin where he practiced dentistry for over 35 years. He thought of his patients as friends and treated them accordingly. Going camping and Elk hunting with his friends in Colorado was one of his great joys. As a result, he bought a cabin in Lake City, Colorado where he spent many vacations in the mountains relaxing on his front porch and participating in their stick horse rodeo.

Mike was a kind and gentle man who could think outside the box. He was recognized by his peers as one of the top dentists in the state of Texas. Mike will be very missed by his family, friends, and patients.

A memorial will be held July 15th, at 10:30 a.m. at Cook Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation at rmef.org or contact Michael Gookins at (830)935-4754.
