The tender heart of a gentle, loving man has stopped beating. Jay Dee Young passed from this side of the veil into the loving arms of his Savior and his eternal companion, Linda Ann Freestone, on May 4th, 2021.

Jay was born in California on June 20th, 1944. His family soon returned to his beloved Uintah Basin where Jay lived most of his 76 years.

After marrying his high school sweetheart on September 16th, 1966, they settled in the Ogden area. As a young couple, they moved around a bit from Ogden to Denver, but the mountains of Vernal called him and his young family back in 1975. They moved to the house his father-in-law built, where he spent the happiest days of his life.

Jay and Linda were sealed eternally to each other and their four boys on October 4th, 1974 in a sacred ceremony in the Ogden Utah temple. Jay was as dedicated to the Lord as he was to his wife, children, family, and friends.

Jay had an unusual ability to run and walk great distances. He played and lettered in several sports at Uintah High School including football, track, and basketball. Jay later walked on to the track team at Weber State College.

If you were going hunting with Jay, you had better pack a huge lunch as it was going to be an all-day affair. There were few things that Jay loved more than being with family and friends in the mountains.

Jay is preceded in death by his wife Linda, father William and mother Ethel, and his brother Bert (Vonae). Jay is survived by his sons Scott (Renae) of Salt Lake City, Greg (Leslie) of Pleasant Grove, Robb (Angela) of Mapleton, and Bert (Katie) of Vernal. Jay is also survived by 15 grandchildren and one Hawaiian great-grandson.

The family would like to thank the Uintah Care Center and the amazing staff of loving and caring professionals.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ashley 2nd Ward LDS Chapel (3040 North Vernal Avenue). A viewing for family and friends will be held Thursday morning 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. at the chapel. Interment will be in the Rockpoint Cemetery under the direction of the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home.
