Eva M. Berwert, 73, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 1995 at her home. She was born Dec. 13, 1921 in Topeka, the daughter of Jacob and Barbara Hefner Appelhanz.
She attended St. Joseph's Catholic Grade School and Hayden High School and spent of her life in Topeka. She worked for Holiday Inn 30
years. She was a member of Neighborhood Watch and the German American Club.
She was married to William S. Berwert May 30, 1941 in Topeka. He died March 9, 1992. An infant son, Gary L. Berwert died in 1951. Another son, Patrick M. Berwert was killed in Vietnam in 1968. An infant great-grandson, Dallas Jason Berwert, died June 21, 1994.
Survivors include a son, Michael P. Berwert, Topeka; a daughter, Barbara M. Stadler, Meriden; six brothers, Theodore Appelhanz, Isadore Appelhanz, Ralph Appelhanz, Adam Appelhanz, Raymond Appelhanz, and Leonard Appelhanz, all in Topeka; a sister, Mary Catherine Allen, Topeka; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday Davidson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Berwert will lie in state after 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
