We, the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other family members, rejoice and praise God for the life of our beloved, Nathaniel Butler. On Sunday, May 9, 2021 around 9:45 a. m. at his home, 610 E Liberty Street, the Lord came and called his son, Nathaniel Butler home. Servant of God, well done!
Nathaniel, affectionately known as: Bossman, Tuddie, Cab, Nate, Daddy, and Granddad, was the 5th child born to the late Joe and Anna Mickens Butler on May 23, 1925 in Sumter County. Nathaniel received his education in the Sumter County public school system.
Nathaniel is preceded in death by his siblings: Wilson (Buster), Marion (Sack), Anna (Rusha), Elex (Buck), Katie, Ervin (Lil One), and Ernest (Big One).
In 1946, Nathaniel married the late Margaret Gregg Butler and to this union came two daughters, Thelma and Nita and two sons, Alexander and Sammie who preceded Nathaniel in death.
Nathaniel was a devoted and loyal employee at Kneece Tractor and Truck Company for seventeen years. In 1960, Nathaniel relocated with his family to Bridgeport, CT and worked at Raybesto Brake System for twenty years and retired in 1987. Nathaniel was an avid baseball fan and played at Salterstown Elementary School. One would think they were watching the major leagues the way Nathaniel played.
At an early age, Nathaniel was baptized and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Nathaniel was a long time member of St. Mark United Methodist Church serving on many ministries but was most proud when he was appointed 'Church Father'.
Nathaniel leaves to cherish and continue on with the legacy: his children, Thelma, Nita, Lisa (Timothy), Dolores, David, Ronnie and preceded him in death (Alexander and Sammie); those whom he raised, Charles (Sharon), Albert (Ann), Kambria, Dominic, and preceded him in death (Alexander, Sammie, Annie Mae and Ernest); a special niece, Alfreda and grandnephew, Renaldo; two daughters-in-law, Lois and Mary; thirty two grandchildren; fifty one great grandchildren; fourteen great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home from 5:00 until 8:00 p. m., 610 East Liberty Street, Sumter.
