Doris Ruth Grout Schirm died October 30, 2007. She resided at 565 East 6270 South in Murray, Utah at the time of her death.

She was born to Charles and Mary Seiler Grout, Winterset, Iowa on May 4, 1918, the oldest of five children.

Her childhood years were spent in Winterset, Iowa. Before she married, she was a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. On June 1, 1940, she married her childhood sweetheart, Dale Schirm, and settled in Denver, Colorado. In 1962, Doris and Dale, along with their daughters Marcia and Melodee, moved to Murray, Utah.

Throughout their sixty-seven year marriage, she and her husband enjoyed square dancing, fishing, and spending time with family at their cabin in Fruitland.

After Dale's retirement in 1978, their winter home-base was in Mesa, Arizona, while traveling in their motor home throughout Mexico with their friends.

Doris enjoyed crossword puzzles, good friends, and most of all, her family. She was always anxious to get back to Murray in the spring to watch her grandsons play baseball. Doris was a great cook and we loved her fried chicken and home-made pies.

She is survived by her husband, Dale, her daughter and son-in-law, Melodee and Craig Cowan; six grandsons, Darren and Tammy Ottley, Brad and Tina Ottley, Doug and Cheryl Ottley, Cabe and Susan Cowan, Scott and Lisa Cowan, Taylor Cowan (Keslee Smith); eight great-grandchildren, Presley and Caden Ottley, Brent and Ian Ottley, Ronan and Collin Ottley, Christian and Olivia Cowan. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Dennis Ottley (Dee) and two sisters, Ruby Estell and Marge Mount. Preceding her in death are her daughter, Marcia Ottley, her infant grandsons Brent Alan Ottley and John Christian Cowan; two brothers, Claude Grout and Loren Grout.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Chapel, 4760 South State Street (100 East), from 10:30-11:30 a.m., with graveside services at 12:00 p.m. in the Murray City Cemetery, 5490 South Vine Street (730 East).
