Michael "Mike" Gray Grant, age 72, was born June 8, 1948 and entered into the arms of Jesus on May 6, 2021. He is preceded in death by his brother, David Gray Grant; his mother, Frankie (Frank) Gray Grant Bell; his father, Ed Grant; grandparents, Nora Rogers and Frank Gray, and HT and Alice Grant, all from Winchester. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Treva Farmer Grant of Winchester; and children, Michael E. Grant and Renee (Tommy) Curtis of Cowan. He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Hannah Lannan of Cowan, Callie (Logan) Ray of Winchester, and Sam Boatman of Tullahoma; one great-granddaughter, Kyla Lannan of Cowan, but was looking forward to the arrival of his 2nd great-granddaughter, Kora Gray Ray; sister, Melissa (Jim) Charles of Nashville; and several nieces, and nephews. Mike worked as a machinist for several years at Wilton and Schmiede Corp in Tullahoma before deciding to go into trucking. He was a 3rd generation owner and operator truck driver for over 40 years and also owned Grant Trailer Leasing Co. He tried to retire several times but the road kept calling him back and so he went. He took pride in his work and was recognized for it by receiving several plaques and awards, including more than one "One Million Mile Safety Award". When he was home, you could always find him outside tinkering or cleaning on his truck, working in the yard, or attending services at the Decherd First Baptist church. Although trucking took him away from home a lot, he loved his family dearly. He also held a special place in his heart for his trucking family. He would often refer to his actual family as his "little family" and always enjoyed having them there with him. In his younger years he enjoyed going hunting, fishing, camping, going riding and mudding in the mountains, and always making great memories and lifelong friends all along the way. As he got older he still enjoyed going to the mountain with his friends. He specifically looked forward to outings with Joe Baxter, Chris Foster, and B.J. Rigsby, were always the ones he would most look forward to. Mike always enjoyed having family and friends over for cookouts and would always man the grill, even if he never learned how to grill a juicy hamburger. He also loved antique cars and trucks, going to truck shows, and collecting small antiques. He had a dry sense of humor and loved to pick and aggravate those he liked. Mike was a kind and giving man and he would go out of his way to help anyone, if you had a problem he always wanted to help and "fix" whatever it was. His generosity stretched from his family to his friends, and even strangers he met along the road. Mike Grant was a husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, co-worker, and friend to so many, and he will surely be missed. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Monday, May 10, 2021 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday May 11, 2021 in the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Rev. L.Z. Johnson officiating. There will be a private family burial held. Moore-Cortner Funeral Home, 300 1st Ave. NW, Winchester, TN 37398, 931-967-2222, www.moorecortner.com.
