Wife of John Philip Sousa, Sr She is the daughter of Henry Bellis and Louisa (Cornish) Bellis of Philadelphia. Her brother, Harry, and her sister, Annie (Bellis) Thomson are buried in the Greenmount cemetery in Philadelphia.

In 1832 he applied for a pension and his claim was allowed. He was born in Hillsboro; died in Montgomery, Somerset County, N. J.
"Mrs. Sousa was born in 1861. She was a bit reluctant to tell her age. We have a note from her to daughter Helen stating she was born in 1861 at the Library of Congress."
