Mrs. Norma was the daughter of the late George Mark McCorkle and Hazel Jones McCorkle. In 1954 she married Walter, the love of her life. As a longtime member of Harlem United Methodist Church she served as President of the Sunday School Class and several appointments for Official Boards of the Church. She was a former member of the Harlem Woman's Club.
After 35 years of service, she retired from Richmond County Board of Education. Mrs. Norma was proud of being the first Food and Nutrition Director for Richmond County BOE and served Georgia School and Nutrition Association as Secretary. She was a lifetime member of the Richmond County Retired Educators and the Georgia Retired Educators and a member of "PAGE" Professional Association of Georgia Educators. Her College Education included being a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, Georgia State College for Women, Georgia College and State University and finished her Graduate work at University of Georgia.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Walter Samuel Reeves, Jr. and Catherine Reeves Ashmore (Douglas); Grandchildren, Douglas Campbell Ashmore, Jr., Samuel Reeves Ashmore (Anna), Anna Lee Ashmore (Quique), William Thomas (Julie) and Angela Magruder (Jeff); and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, in Harlem Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend David Cooper officiating.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Starling Funeral Home.
