Verl married Marjorie Ellen Kennedy on May 30, 1942 in Covington, KY. She passed away January 16, 2003. They had three children : Pamela Kay, Anita Lynn and Verl Kevin. On September 21, 2012 he married Lois Gray Bevan in Sanford, FL. He is survived by his wife Lois, his daughters Pamela Powell Richardson of Longwood, FL and Anita Lynn Powell (Preston) Shoup of St. Petersburg, FL. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; Gerald (Catalina) Richardson Jr., Deanna (DeeDee) Richardson McWilliams, Jeffrey (Tina) Richardson, Kristen Shoup and Kevin Ryan Powell; 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, 2 step-children, 4 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marjorie, his son Kevin, 2 sisters Louise and Ruth and brother Lowell Edward.
Verl Powell was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army Air Force later changed to U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific area. He was a retired construction superintendent. He enjoyed camping in his early years following his retirement. One of his many achievements was being able to prove to his family that at the age of 95 he could still throw a bowling ball down the lanes.
