DAVID LEE REID, SR. (age 74)
August 20, 1946 ~ May 6, 2021

A Life Remembered...

On Thursday, May 6, 2021 our beloved David L. Reid, Sr., was called up to Heaven while a patient in Envoy of Woodbridge. David was born in James City County, Virginia on August 20, 1946 to Irving and Charlotte Reid.

David attended Bruton Heights School in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was joined in marriage to Edna Boyd in 1970. Shortly after marriage, David gave his life to Christ and started in the ministry. After two previous unsuccessful births, this union was blessed with one child, David L. Reid, Jr.

During his teens years, David enjoyed playing sports. His main sports were baseball and golf. While playing baseball he would be called "Nellie Fox" so called after the major league baseball second baseman by the same name. His love for golf would lead him and his brother, William, to work as caddies at the local country club.

David would work many different jobs in his adult life from a funeral home, to a nursing home, to being an assistant baseball coach and working in the hotel business. It was the latter job that he would excel at. David was known for working with his hands. He could fix anything. His tool collection would have some stories to tell. David would progress quickly up the ranks in the maintenance department at the Northlake Hilton in Marietta, Georgia. Beginning as entry maintenance staff, he would eventually make it to become the chief engineer at Northlake Hilton.

He was known for being a hard worker, his fiery spirit, and love for his family. One of the things he would impress upon his son was it is better to have and not need than to need and not have. He worked hard to assure that his son received a good education. He was a true child of God.

He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Reid; his mother, Charlotte Reid; brother, James Reid and his faithful wife, Edna Reid. David leaves to cherish his memory, his son, David L. Reid, Jr.; his sister, Shirley Brown; and his brothers, Irving, William and Cecil Reid; along with nieces, nephews, sister-in-law and other loving relatives and many caring friends.

A public viewing for the former Franklin resident will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May 20th from 12:00 – 5:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 1:00 PM, Southview Cemetery, Morton Street, Franklin, Virginia with Reverend Hilda Montgomery, officiant.

Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, 224 South Main Street, Franklin, Virginia 23851 is in charge of arrangements.
