US Congressman. He graduated from the Law University of Albany New York in 1859, was admitted to the bar in 1860 and commenced to practice law in Wilmington, Vermont. He was a member of the Vermont State House of Representatives (1863-64) and Vermont State's attorney (1866-67). In 1879, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1883. He declined to be a candidate for re-nomination, resumed the practice of law in Brattleboro, Vermont and was appointed a judge on the Vermont State supreme court 1887, serving until his resignation in December 1908.
