She was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and the University of the State of New York for nursing where she worked for Albert Einstein Hospital in New York City until the late 1980s. In the late 1980s Janice graduated from Penn State University with a degree as a Nurse Practitioner with a concentration in neonatal care, leading her to work at Geisinger Danville in the Neonatal air transport unit up until 1990 when she became the head nurse for the newly formed pediatric unit, of which she was instrumental in the planning, at Moses Taylor Hospital until 1999. From 2000 to 2002 she continued her R.N. career at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pa. From 2002 until she retired in 2011 she worked at UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.
