The youngest of three sons born to Russell Metcalf Fox and Minnie Belle Callahan Fox, Theodore was an allied member of John and Betty More's Jonas line. He was raised at Lowell, Massachusetts where his father was a second hand at a cotton mill and later a public school instructor. Theodore was a graduate of Lowell Textile School at Lowell and active in multiple school clubs and activities. He was employed by J. P. Stevens and Company at New York City in 1940 when he registered for the World War II draft. Theodore married first to Helen Shirley Chapman in 1942 at Melrose, Massachusetts. They made their home first at Boston, Massachusetts and later at Old Greenwich, Connecticut. She died in 1999 and Theodore married next to widow Virginia Ruth More Gardner on 5 October 2002 at Yarmouth, Massachusetts. Their last residence was at Garratsville, New York and one record indicates that he died at Oneonta, New York. Theodore and his first wife, Helen, were the parents of three sons. GARRATTSVILLE _ Theodore (Ted) Webster Fox, 90, of Garrattsville, left his earthly home early Saturday morning.
He was born in Lowell, Mass., on Nov. 3, 1917, the son of Russell M. Fox and Minnie (Callahan) Fox.
He was first married to Shirley Chapman, who passed away several years ago. He then married Virginia Elliott Gardner on Oct. 5, 2002, in Yarmouth Port, Mass.
He served his country as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force, and was a graduate of Lowell Tech., in Lowell, Mass.
Ted had worked as a textile engineer with Dan River Inc. in New York City, retiring in 1981. Most of his life he lived in Greenwich, Conn., and later in Yarmouth Port, Mass. For the past six years he lived in Garrattsville and spent his winters in Venice, Fla., with his wife, Virginia.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Greenwich, Conn.
Ted is survived by his wife, Virginia; his sons, Ronald Fox of Saratoga, Calif., Russell Fox and wife Barbara of Mooresville, N.C., Randall Fox and wife Tina of Benton, Ky.; his grandchildren, Corrie Cole and husband Frank of Benton, Ky., David Fox and wife Christie of Mooresville, N.C., Becky Cossaboom and husband Rusty of Statesville, N.C., Daniel Fox of Huntington Beach, Calif., Chrissie Evans and husband Robbie of Pala Alto, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; stepsons, John Elliott of Canandaigua, Gary Elliott and wife Janet of Richfield Springs; stepgrandchildren, Lisa Elliott of Leonardsville, Ryan Elliott of Richfield Springs, Michael Elliott of Jamesville, Katie Elliott of New Berlin.
He was predeceased by two brothers.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at the Garrattsville Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, with the Rev. Stephen Reese officiating.
Interment will be in the First Congregational Church Cemetery in Old Greenwich, Conn., at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820 in Ted's memory.
