He lived a life devoted to God, his family, and his vocation of teaching. Fitting for his calling, John had a mischievous and youthful nature, enjoyed by all who met him. John also had a great passion for his annual and perennial back-yard gardens.
John also known as Jack was born on January 11, 1940 in Bayonne. Jack graduated from Marist College in 1963, Poughkeepsie, New York as a Marist Brother. He received Master's Degrees from St. John's University, New York and Monmouth University, New Jersey. Jack retired after 40 years, as a mathematics teacher. Jack taught at Mater Dei Prep, Catholic High School, Middletown Township, New Jersey and Saint Peter's Preparatory School in Jersey City, New Jersey. Throughout his career, Jack tutored students and worked closely with their families to cultivate successful young lives.
Jack is survived by his sister Sr. Theresa, B. O'Donnell, SSJ of Chestnut Hill Philadelphia, and his 30 loving nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and nephews across the country. He is also survived by his devoted friends, Peter, Chuck and John. Jack was predeceased by his parents John M. O'Donnell and Bridget M. (nee Bonner) O'Donnell and his sisters and brothers Rose A. Kane, Patrick J. O'Donnell, Marjorie V. O'Donnell, Anna M. Pellecchia, Anthony G. O'Donnell, Mary A. McElwee, Bridget T. Taylor, and Michael B. O'Donnell.
Visitation will be Monday, May 10, 2021 from 4 to 8 pm., at Sweeney Funeral Home, Bayonne. Funeral Mass and Celebration of Jack's life will be Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. at BI Miriam Teresa Demjanovich Parish at St. Andrew Church, 125 Broadway, Bayonne, N.J. Burial at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia, N.J.
