Mr. Henry Jefferson Maddox, 77, entered into rest at 1:40 p.m., Sunday afternoon, May 5, 1929, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.E. Long, at Langley, S.C., after an illness of ten days. Prior to going to his daughter's home nine months ago, Mr. Maddox had been a resident of Augusta, having been born in this county. He is survived by four sons; W.L. Maddox, Ellenton, S.C.; J.S. Maddox, Richmond county; G.C. and C.H. Maddox, of Augusta; four daughters, Mrs. Lawson Goodwin and Mrs. W.H. Mays, of this county; Mrs. Marshall Anderson, of Ocilla, Ga., and Mrs. J.E. Long of Langley, S.C., one brother Hillman Maddox, of this county, and a sister. Mrs. Lavinia Gibbs, of Gainesville, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted at Pierce's Chapel, 7 miles Wrightsboro road, Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Rev. C.W. Thorpe will officiate, assisted by Rev. H.P. Bell. Pallbearers will be, Herbert Camp, Leroy Harris, Arthur Jackson, Harry Brown, Joe Martin and Charles Harris. Interment will be in the churchyard cemetery. Elliott & Sons.
