Sister Mary Ann Moses (Sister M. Emerentia), a Pittsburgh Sister of Mercy for nearly 69 years, died at the Convent of Mercy on May 3, 2021. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was 85 years old. Daughter of Alexander and Lena (Johns) Moses, Sr. Mary Ann entered the Sisters of Mercy from Epiphany Parish, Pittsburgh, PA in 1952 and made final vows in 1958. Sister Mary Ann earned a degree in Music Education from Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) and a MS from Duquesne University. She taught in area Catholic schools including St. Cyril of Alexandria, Our Lady of Mercy Academy, St. Francis Xavier and St. Maurice. Sister Mary Ann also taught music at Carlow University and gave private piano and voice lessons for many years at the Campus School of Carlow University. In keeping with her commitment to share her love of music, she was motivated by the words of Catherine McAuley, "Lord, that I might see," noting that those words helped her to see and develop others' talents and joys and also to share the sorrows of others. Preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alexander Moses, and a sister, Rose Marie Moses. Sister Mary Ann is survived by a brother, Joseph Moses of Pittsburgh. A Private Funeral Service will be held followed by Interment in St. Xavier's Cemetery, Latrobe, PA. Arrangements entrusted to the EDWARD P. KANAI FUNERAL HOME, 500 Greenfield Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 3333 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213 or the Carlow University Scholarship Fund.
