Holly Andrew "Andy" Spears, 83, of Parkersburg passed away Feb. 14, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born July 24, 1923, in Eaton, W.Va., a son of the late William Daniel and Weltha Myrtle Hawkins Spears. He was a U.S. Army veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart, having served during World War II. He was retired from the B&O Railroad after 40 years of service as a welder.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katie G. Modesitt Spears; two sons, Bruce Allen Spears (Rhonda) of Parkersburg and Kenneth Andrew Spears (Sherry) of Tanner, W.Va.; two daughters, Christine Fay Henry (Andrew) and Kelly Dawn Gibson (Brian), both of Vienna; seven grandchildren, Kim Spears of Florida, Kevin Spears of Parkersburg, Andy Spears and Tony Spears of Tanner, W.Va., Jill Gaertner of Chesterfield, Va., Jessica Spears of Parkersburg and Rachel Gibson of Vienna; four great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Rylee, Holly and Andrew; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; and five sisters.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, with Dr. Michael Richards officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen North Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
