He retired as a machine operator from ALCOA, Bettendorf, IA. He loved watching westerns, playing golf, and Spyro video game with his grandchildren. He was a fun loving father who cared deeply for his kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Karen; children, Jeffrey (Linda) Sterling, Lowell, MA, Robert Sterling Jr., East Moline, James (Lana) Sterling, Rock Island, IL, David (Maria) Sterling, Australia, Stephen (Roshelle) Sterling, Davenport, Michael (Diane) Sterling, Elgin, IL, Sarah Sterling, Saginaw, MI; grandchildren, Kelly, Katie, Courtney, Carson, Brad, Blake D., Jeanie, Brooke, Geovanni, JonTavius, Blake A., and Augustus; 20 great grandchildren; and sister, Betty Jean Wulf, Tipton, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
