Colonel Donnie F. Garrett of Anderson, S.C. formerly of Lexington, S.C. entered into eternal rest on July 26,2020. Mr. Garrett was born in Pickens County on July 1, 1943 he passed away at the age of 77.
Donnie enlisted in the National Guard on April 22, 1966. He completed MOS Training as a Light Air Defense Artillery Crewman at Fort Bliss, Texas. He graduated Officer Candidate School and was Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Defense Artillery in August 1968. He served as a assistant Platoon Leader, and a Platoon Leader, Battery Commander, Battalion Operations Officer, and Troop Command Operations Officer. He was Battalion Commander (Hawk). He worked in the TAG building in POTO. For many years he was on the State MOB Team and as an augmentee on the IG. Inspection Team. His final assignment was as Logistics Officer for the South Carolina Army National Guard. He retired on December 12, 1998. His overseas service assignments included, Ecuador, Honduras, Panama, and Germany.
