Dr. Mary E. Harlan Daniels Nelson, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in Columbus, Ohio. Mary was born June 19, 1945. She graduated from Riverside High School in Painesville, Ohio in 1963. She completed her undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University which included spending a semester studying abroad in Spain. Mary earned her master's degree from Ball State University in Indiana and earned her doctorate degree from The Ohio State University. Mary taught Spanish at the junior high level. Following this, she was a professor of Business English and Spanish at Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. She then moved on to become a teacher in the Columbus City School District and was an ESL teacher upon her retirement. Along with her career in education, Mary enjoyed investing in the stock market and owned and managed numerous real estate properties. Mary was married to Bob Daniels and the late Hugh Nelson. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Doris Harlan, her paternal grandparents Chester and Bessie Harlan, and her maternal grandparents Orbie and Mary Shively. Survivors include her two sisters, Genevieve Sivula-Phillips (Tim) of Concord, and Kathryn Hessinger (the late Drew) of New Jersey; her nieces, Katie Sivula, Corey Hessinger, and Becky Robertson; her nephew, Brian Hessinger; and her great nephew, Brantlee Robertson.
